MARCH- Beginning Gypsy:

American Gypsy is a romantic, incredibly lively form of dance that is inspired by the Romany, Spanish, Indian and Middle Eastern cultures.  What else could it be, here in the great melting pot? Laughing

I've created Monday's class to focus on learning combinations, and then interacting with other dancers in a "call and respond format" where one group playfully challenges another.  We'll begin with a Nia-inspired warm up and then move into the combinations and moving around with attitude and energy.  This class is designed to really lift the spirits and release the creative gypsy in every woman!  I hope you love it as much as I do~
MONDAYS- 7:35  starting March 29.  6 week study program.  All levels of dancers are welcomed to come and study this style of dance.  Full skirt needed (I do have a few to loan. In class use only.) $60  (Continuing student discount is $42)

JULY'S CLASS:

OOOOhhhh, this is too fun!
We start out with a very lively section that will make you hoot and holler. I'm not kidding- you will make noise!  LOL  I created this choreography and taught it in a workshop.  We had so much fun, I thought I would create a class just for it!  I do have a couple of skirts to share, so don't let that stop you.  Bring a full skirt of your own if you have one and let's twirl like wild women, stomp our feet and hands and have a blast while getting a good workout!

Class begins July 8 on Wednesdays, 7:45-9:00.  4 week class is $28 or $30 by PayPal.

I've discovered that no matter how often I try to bring the word Rom, or Romany into the vocabulary, folks recognize the word "Gypsy" first.  I was lucky enought to take a seminar and purchase academic material from Artemis Mourat, who has studied first hand and extensively the Rromany, or Gypsy culture.  She made it very clear that to this group of people, being called a Gypsy is as offensive as referring to an African American with the N word. Thus, my attempts to exchange Gypsy with Rom.

However, I have also come to recognize that to the general American public, the word Gypsy has a romantic connotation, and isn't meant as an insult.  It is also very firmly entrenched in our vocabulary, and I'm no longer going to fight it, but I will do my best to pass on the information I have been fortunate enough to find.  ~Blessings to All~
